What Are SuprAffs?
SuprAffs is an ACRONYM (from the words super and affirmations) describing a special type of affirmation, coined by its creator (and author of this book) Neal Engelking.
An affirmation is a "statement of intent", directed at the sub-conscious mind, through the subliminal psychological process known as autosuggestion, in an attempt to change behavior.
Autosuggestion (sometimes called self-hypnosis) is the hypnotic or subconscious adoption of an idea that one has originated oneself, e.g. through repetition of verbal statements (e.g. self-affirmations) to oneself for purposes of changing behavior.
SuprAffs utilize positive self-affirmations which contain FIVE ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS:
1.
SuprAffs are BELIEVABLE:
When you repeat an affirmation that you don't truly believe, you're probably creating more problems than you're solving. Studies show repeating an “unbelievable” affirmation such as "I'm rich", when in fact you’re not, not only doesn't create positive change it more than likely creates a negative response sub-consciously, just like lying to yourself probably does.
2. SuprAffs are SPECIFIC:
When you repeat a positive affirmation, the more specific the wording the more likely it is to become effective. For example, instead of saying "I like it when I watch my weight, a more specific positive self-affirmation might be "I like it when I weigh myself every morning".
3. SuprAffs are REPEATED DAILY until the new behavior is firmly established.
Sixty (66) days is about average for habit formation according to one recent study, but some partial changes will often start within a day or two.
4. SuprAffs are VISUALIZED:
For example, if your positive affirmation is about weight control and you want to establish the habit of weighing daily then you would picture yourself on the scale while repeating the SuprAff. Studies show visualizing affirmations creates stronger reception to "suggestion" by the sub-conscious mind.
5. SuprAffs are repeated when in an ELEVATED POSITIVE MOOD if at all possible: There is evidence that learning (subconscious memorization, etc.) can be brought about faster and more effectively when in an elevated positive mood.
Note: Once you learn how to "structure" a good affirmation using the guidelines above, you can "customize" your own SuprAffs for best results depending on your personal goals.
